The American Civil War –There are people still alive today who are only separated from that war by one or two generations. People who can remember their grandparents talking about what it was like to live through those times. There are even more people who can say, ‘My grandfather’s grandfather fought with the Union or Confederate army. And some who can even say that an ancestor of theirs saw with their own eyes General Lee’s soldiers trudge away from the fields of Gettysburg…”
With almost 700,000 American dead, the Civil War remains the deadliest and bloodiest conflict in American history - compared with all other wars combined and it would become a defining era for every succeeding generation.
Many of us may read about the Civil War in history books and feel like it has no personal connection to who we are. But, in fact, that conflict was not so long ago, that most of us can’t look just below the surface to find a very real connection with its history.
The American Civil War is the most recent era for which The Interactive History Co. is developing programs. As of the 2008-2009 academic year there are three large school assembly program offerings about the Civil War and two Focus-on-History programs. We invite you to visit again soon to see what other programs IHC develops to help people better understand this important period in our nation’s history.
