Focus-On-History Classes
A Focus-on-History program consists of a 45-60 minute long presentation concentrating on a single subject from a specific time period, e.g. "Armor of the Middle Ages", "Clothing of the Ancient World", "Letters From the Battlefield", etc. All Focus-on-History Classes open with a 15 - 20 minute verbal introduction, infused with questioning strategies that inspire an active give & take between the Interactive History Company Instructor and the students. It is followed by a hands-on activity that allows the students to further explore the topic. The class finishes up with a verbal summary and student assessment, concluding with a question and answer period.

Focus-on-History Class Titles:

Shakespeare's Time
For the Middle and High School Humanities teacher presenting the later Renaissance period, this is a delightful introduction to Elizabethan England and the culture that nurtured the genius of Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare Francis Bacon and John Milton. Students are introduced to the attitudes and literature of the time through a comparison between contemporary music-lyrics and the writings of Renaissance England as they are led step-by-step through the process of writing their own Shakespearean-style sonnet. "Living History" Workshops
Intensive "Living History" Workshops are available for: Ancient Mediterranean, Medieval Europe, Renaissance England and Colonial America (2.5+hours).

A Living History Workshop requires a minimum of two and half hours as it takes a group of up to 32 students through activities related to the culture, social structure and daily life experiences of the time period and topic being presented. These are intensive interactive workshops that allow students to experience a wide range of hands-on activities related to the specific period.

First-Person Interactive Performances (60 - 90 Minutes)
Chautauqua-style first-person interactive presentations with an instructor/actor of the Interactive History Company taking on the persona of an historical character - either real, (Benjamin Franklin), literary (Jane Austin's Elizabeth Bennett) or a created-character who could have existed in the time period being presented (Galatea of Greece, Robin Player).


Interactive All-school Music Assemblies (45 - 90 Minutes)
A lively, interactive all-school assembly up to 90 minutes in length, teaching and singing songs, rounds and ballads of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Colonial and Civil War America . (45-90 Minutes) Fee: $700.00

Hands-on-History Barter Faires
For those interested in coordinating one of the most memorable and intensive history-experiences for their social studies or humanities students, please call The Interactive History Co. at: (206) 933-8681 about organizing and providing activities for a variety of period-style trade and barter faires. Subject areas include: An Ancient Greek Market Faire; A Medieval Barter Faire; and an Elizabethan May-Day Market.
